Silent Treatment. Please help.?

A friend of mine (male) often gets angry over things I can't understand and he leaves me stunned. I can say something very innocently and he suddenly just explodes with anger. He has given me the silent treatment before and it has lasted up to nine days! This time though, I corrected him on something or reminded him of something I should say and he suddenly said "Dont ever contact me again!" It's been 29 days. He will not acknowledge me. I've tried to talk to him and even apologized and asked forgiveness for what ever it is I've done. He just ignores me. Won't answer calls, IMs, emails- nothing. I am so depressed over this I can't eat and I'm having bad dreams...I just don't know what it means or why people do this to each other. I am so hurt. Is there anyone who can give me some advice? I don't know if this is the end of our friendship or just a tantrum so to speak. I don't know anything anymore! I feel so disconnected :(
