Strange and lengthy medical question. Any advice would be very helpful...?

Hi everyone, ever since I met my husband he has had digestive troubles such as painful bowel movements, diarrhea, and abdominal cramping...particularly first thing in the morning. It seems like every time we are getting convinced he needs medical intervention, the symptoms will receed dramatically for a month or two, only to suddenly reappear. So this time I wasnt surprised when he was having painful bowel movements (nothing new there) but it has been like six days now and all his symptoms have been getting worse and worse. Where we stand now is he was having rectal bleeding, diarrhea, severe abdominal (gas) pain, and a high fever with occasional vomitting. We took him to the ER and they gave him an anti-nausea perscription as well as hydrocodone. None of that is really helping though. Currently his bleeding and cramps have subsided alot, but now he is in the bathroom literally about 50% of the day throwing up. Usually he is having dry heaves because he has only eaten like four pieces
