Can my tongue heal over the ball in my piercing?

I just got my tongue last wednesday, and i read up on it how the ball will get recessed into the tongue it swells, and it might take a while for the swelling to go down, but i heal pretty quickly and the already over half way recessed, (over half of it is under the top part of the tongue once in a while while im cleaning, there will be a film over it, like my tongue's trying to heal over the ball. It feels fine, doesn't hurt really anymore, Today's the 5th day by the way, So can my tongue heal over the ball? also how long have you guys found it takes for the swelling to go down, the only reason i know its swollen is because there's no room on the bar anymore.
