Help! I screwed up melting chocolate - How do I fix it?

I melted some chocolate chips to pour over a mixture of cereal, pretzels and nuts to make a sweet treat. But when I melted the chocolate (using a make-shift double boiler), it didn't get as thin as I would have liked in order to pour it over the cereal mix. I tried to thin it out by adding 1 Tbsp cream, 1 Tbsp light corn syrup and 2 Tbsp er (based on a chocolate glaze recipe I have), but this made the chocolate clumpy, not thinner. How do I fix it or is the chocolate mixture a complete waste?
